Vryburg, 28 August 2024 – On the 21st of August 2024, Tigerkloof Combined School emerged victorious as the District Champions in the Road Safety Debate Competitions held in Vryburg. This achievement now paves the way for Tigerkloof Combined School to represent the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District at the provincial leg of the competition, where they will compete against other district champions from across the North West Province later this month.
The competition saw Pudumong High School secure the second position, while Kgononyane Secondary School took third place. The event, part of the annual Road Safety Debate and Participatory Education Technique (PET) programme, is designed to promote responsible road safety behavior among high school learners. It also provides students with the opportunity to enhance their research, analytic, and presentation skills.

Tigerkloof Combined School’s success in the district competition sets the stage for an exciting provincial showdown. They will compete against Golf View Secondary School (Ngaka Modiri Molema District), Tiragalo Secondary School (Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District), and Leokeng Secondary School (Bojanala District). The provincial competition will determine which school will represent the North West Province at the national level.
The upcoming Provincial Road Safety Schools Debate Competition will feature a keynote address by the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, 30 August 2024, at the Ngwenya Hotel in Klerksdorp.
The Road Safety Debate initiative is a critical component of the provincial government’s efforts to instill a culture of road safety among young people. By engaging learners in debates on road safety issues, the programme aims to develop future advocates for road safety and contribute to the reduction of road accidents in the province.
